1. RUG FEATURES
This rug is entirely handcrafted. The warp and weft are made of cotton, and the knots are hand-tied using wool yarns spun manually with a spindle (kirman). The wool yarns are naturally dyed using traditional plant-based dyeing methods known as root dyeing. For instance, to achieve a red hue, wool is boiled with rose petals, transferring the color naturally—these yarns are called "root-dyed".
Rugs made with natural dyes become glossier and richer in color over time with use.
This rug is of high knot density and has been crafted using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique. This method results in a denser, more durable rug, often longer-lasting than Persian alternatives.
Approximately 650,000 individual hand knots were tied during its making.

2. HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Sultani rugs are a treasured part of the Ottoman Empire’s rich textile heritage. These rugs were traditionally woven in the 16th and 17th centuries for palaces and high-ranking residences.
They are distinguished by their use of high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship, often showcasing motifs that reflect the Empire’s cultural and artistic heritage: floral patterns, trees, geometric forms, and symbolic figures.
Originally designed for Ottoman court rooms and diplomatic residences, Sultani rugs have a timeless aesthetic that continues to harmonize beautifully with both modern and classical interiors.
3. CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Since this rug is dyed with natural root dyes, avoid using any chemical-based carpet shampoos or detergents.
If any liquid is spilled on the rug:

Use white bar soap and a damp cloth to gently clean the area with light foam.

Immediate action is crucial. If the spill sits too long, the stain may penetrate deep into the warp and become permanent.
